Scrabble Junior

I am a former teacher so I understand how important words and reading are for the educational development of children. This is definitely a creative and educational game! I like the fact that it has an easy side and a harder side so that it is appropriate for different ages of chidren.

I sent two Scrabble Junior games and one large adult Scrabble game as Christmas presents to a non-biological "family" of 16 children and 7 adults living in two houses in Monrovia, Liberia located in western Africa. I am told everybody loves them. The children watch the adults play their game, and then they take turns playing the junior games.

Milton Bradley Game of Life-Extreme Reality Review

Over the years, my family has collected assorted versions of Milton-Bradley's game of Life. Though one of their newest additions, Life: Twists and Turns, is by far our favorite, this one comes close. The game doesn't involve much skill or concentration, which makes it much less entertaining than games that involve more verbal activity. The directions that come with the game are very vague and there are a lot of things that you have to figure out by yourself or find out about as you go. Also, the meaning behind the game is odd. You are awarded money throughout the game based on the results of Stories or Extreme Stories cards. The weird part comes in when you are given large amounts of money for your embarrassment or humiliation. The cards supposedly tell true stories, but I feel they would be more entertaining if you were given the whole story or at least a few more details. The game comes with blank cards and labels to make your own Stories cards based on your experiences. The game is really fun if you don't focus on its few flaws!Get more detail about Milton Bradley Game of Life-Extreme Reality.

Cosmic Catch - Colors May Vary Top Quality

We got this for our 6 year old nephew for Christmas and he really got into it. I think the adults enjoyed it as much as he did. "quick pass" and "youre out" were definite favorites of the games it does. You need to put the colored plastic part on the inside of your hand to make sure the ball registers your color when you catch it, on the wrist is not good enough.Get more detail about Cosmic Catch - Colors May Vary.

Hasbro Transformers Risk Game Immediately

วันพฤหัสบดีที่ 21 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2553

The latest incarnation of Risk is the new Risk Transformers edition. If the heart of every Risk game is the conflict and the combat system, the soul of the game is the theme. The theme for every edition of Risk is some epic confrontation. From the classic version where players are attempting to conquer the world to Napoleonic battles, the realm of Lord of the Rings, ancient gods, the universes of Star Wars and Narnia and now a battle for the planet of the Transformers. Once again two powerful titanic forces are attempting conquest. Though this is a four player game, as with Lord of the Rings Risk, there are only two factions. There are four sets of different colored units plus four Transformer commanders/leaders each with a unique ability so the game is playable with as many as four players.

Very often when there is a series of games, the various sequels fail to offer variety; they are simply a rehash of the previous game employing a different setting. (Carcassone, Monopoly, Trans America/Europe, etc.) While other series present gamers with a different experience with every new edition. (Settlers, Command & Colors, etc.) Fortunately, for fans of Risk, each new game varies significantly from previous releases. Each of the games has a unique feel. Strategies that are rote in one game are completely inefficient in another. Such is the case with Risk Transformers. Consider the following:

Classic Risk - The original game has been surpassed by it's siblings in almost every way but the last edition (2003) presents the best version of Mission Risk to date and a terrific two player scenario.

Castle Risk - Total chaos, no real cohesiveness.

Napoleon - Very serious it is an attempt to introduce historical scenarios into the Risk format. As such, the scenarios are not necessarily balanced. This version introduced plastic miniatures into the game.

2210 - A serious, challenging game that introduced auctions, commanders, an additional board and presented the player with significantly different routes to victory. The core of this game can be found in three other Risk games (Godstorm, Clone Wars and the Original Trilogy edition).

Godstorm - This is a mix of 2210 and Magic. The commanders of 2210 have been replaced by a pantheon of mythical gods. The cards, and in particular, the card combos, are tremendously more powerful than that in 2210 . While this was intended to represent the power of these mythical gods, it serves to introduce radical changes during the game boarding on near chaos at times. As with 2210 and Napoleon, this is a serious game with a steeper learning curve than a standard Risk game.

Lord of the Rings - Building armies and creating empires is secondary to the search for points (missions). This was the first version that presented the players with a viable team/two player version.

Narnia - An extremely stripped down version of Risk it retains the combat mechanic while eliminating almost all strategic considerations. This game has the lowest piece count of any version of Risk. The nature of the system prevents the tit-for-tat struggles that often occur in a Risk game as one player tries to revenge a perceived injury; the game system determines the area to be attacked.

Warriors/Dragon Hordes - this is the card version of the classic game themed with fantasy creatures. It plays quickly and is portable. While some have had difficulty accepting the alterations, it is a good rendition nonetheless. Note: I am assuming that both decks (Warriors and Dragon Hordes are included as the game is incomplete with only one deck.)

Clone Wars - The first in a set of games based in the Star Wars universe and derived from the system first introduced in 2210. Quick playing and a lighter learning curve than in 2210, the game presents the players with great strategic and tactical choices. This is another game in which two player or team play is indicated.

Original Trilogy - The second game set in the Star Wars universe. This game employs many of the mechanics introduced in 2210/Clone Wars and is designed for three players. Each of the three factions has a different set of goals that conflict with those of their opponents. Though it can be played with two (or, they claim 5 players) the Trilogy edition is optimal at three players.

And now to Transformers Risk.

Transformers Risk is a simplified version of the game when compared with all of the previous editions save Narnia. It is not as complex, nor does it offer the empire building concepts found in the classic edition. This is simply a six turn, knockdown battle. With a nod to the popularity of Eurogames, control of the most spaces at the end of the sixth turn is the goal. Risk Transformers is to 2210 what Heroscape is to advanced Battlelore or Nexus Ops to Twilight Imperium. There is little if any long term strategy but a whole-lotta fighting. This is definitely a beer and pretzels game. As with games such as Tempus, the only scoring is completed in the last turn and the five previous turns are simply positioning for this final scoring.

One of the unusual factors of the game is the relatively low piece count. Though there are methods for generating a large group of reinforcements (card combinations), these events are quite rare. This actually serves to increase the tension in the game as one cannot afford to simply lose units as cannon fodder; each of the units is precious. The collection and submission of sets of cards for additional armies is not present in the game. Other than some of the cards, the only method for gaining reinforcements is the total zone (territory) count and the control of specific sectors (continents). Most spaces commonly hold only one or two armies.

As with every other version of Risk there are cards that can be earned during the game. One card is awarded each turn that a player conquers an opponent's zone. Considering that there are only six turns to the game that means a player can only obtain six cards throughout the game. The cards serve two purposes: the first is to present the player with some bonus opportunities such as additional armies or altering the die result in some way. The second purpose is to morph one of the four special zones (territories) on the map. An example in the rule book suggests that a player plays a combination of these cards and generates a large number of armies. Though this is possible, it is highly improbable. With only six cards possible during the game and the tense, near desperate situation that players reside in, it is unlikely that anyone would hold back on an army generating card.

There are two types of spaces (with two of each type) on the map that are unusual, not just for a Risk game but for any game. There are two spaces that are circular and can be rotated during the game. Arrows on the space indicate which two zones border the space. These spaces can be rotated with one of the cards earned as described above. What makes this interesting is that a player can create a barrier by altering the position of the arrows, effectually preventing a possibly devastating attack. Of course an opponent may burn a card and morph the direction of the arrows again but these cards are so few, so precious that it is not an easy decision.

The second type of space is the factory space. As with most Risk games there are 42 spaces on the board. In Transformers, two of these spaces can be morphed (I believe that is the term they use) into a factory that will produce additional armies for the resident of the space. In addition to this, it becomes an additional space on the board increasing the total count to 44 spaces. It requires a card to open the factory and an opponent, with the proper card, may close the factory (in which case all of the armies produced that remain in the factory are crushed). This can significantly alter the positions and strength of the players in the game.

All of this serves to present a game that is great for a quick, fun battle. Risk Transformers could easily substitute for the times when you might want to play Nexus Ops or Heroscape. It is light and quick enough that players unfamiliar with the system will not be hampered with a difficult learning curve and sufficient strategic and tactical requirements to entertain for the period that it lasts. (The game should play in an hour or less.) It has a vaguely Eurogame feel.

Is it the best Risk yet...nope, but it is satisfying and fits nicely into the Risk collection of games as none of the other versions serves the same purpose. Considering that it costs less than many card games today, this is more bang-for-your-buck than I have seen in quite a while.Get more detail about Hasbro Transformers Risk Game.

Indiana Jones DVD Game Order Now

วันพุธที่ 20 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2553

I got this for son last year when he was big into Indiana Jones. We just played it again, and I have to say this is a great game. Once you understand it, which is a lot easier than it looks, it's a lot of fun. You place tiles down as you travel through the adventure. Then, when you reach an artifact, you must do a challenge (or two or three) to retrieve that artifact. When all artifacts have been collected, you must race back to the Hall of Ancestors as the DVD tells you what tiles to remove.

This was confusing the first time we played it. We didn't follow the instructions closely, and we didn't finish. However, once we understood that the artifacts were more than one push of the DVD remote, we got it and loved it. The games were not too very hard, my 10 and 8 year olds did great.

I recommend this for anyone who has a a die hard Indy fan. Another level of fun, besides a video game. Get more detail about Indiana Jones DVD Game.

Ouija Board: Glow-in-the-Dark Decide Now

I played with a Ouija board once, when I was a young teenager. I've regretted it ever since, for a reason I can't put in this review. I really don't mean to be preachy, but I feel I must warn others so they don't suffer the same way I did.

[...].

Question: "What are Ouija boards? Should a Christian play with Ouija boards?"

Answer: The modern Ouija board was created in the late 1800s as interest in spiritualism grew. A Ouija board is simply a game board that has the alphabet, numerals, and "yes" and "no" printed on its face. Used in conjunction with a pointer, Ouija boards are believed to allow spirits of the dead to communicate with the living. As such, they are often considered to be communication gateways to those who have `passed over.' Of course, this is all based on the supposition that spirits, or ghosts, even exist in the first place and that they can, or want to, communicate with the world of the living.

The Bible has a few things to say about engaging in activities of this nature:

Leviticus 19:31 - "Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God."

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 - "Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD."

Isaiah 8:19 - "When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?"

Galatians 5:19-20 "The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God."

Occultists will insist that the boards work by allowing spirits of the dead to move the pointer in answer to queries. Scientists have yet to prove that the pointer is moved by anything other than the living people touching the pointer. In fact, spirits of the dead seem to get extremely confused when participants are blindfolded and at that point the Ouija board suddenly ceases to work correctly.

"Playing" with a Ouija board is engaging in occultism and is definitely not an option for a Christian. Such activity is clearly forbidden in the Bible. No matter how innocent it may seem, it must be remembered that Ouija boards can be an opening for demons to invade our hearts and minds. All demonic activity is under the control of Satan, whom Peter describes in no uncertain terms: "Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour" (2 Peter 5:8). The scriptural example for dealing with items that pertain to the occult (books, music, jewelry, occultic games, and other occult objects) is to confess involvement with them as sin and burn the items, safely of course (Acts 19:18-19).Get more detail about Ouija Board: Glow-in-the-Dark.

Scrabble Onyx Edition Right now

I bought this edition of Scrabble primarily because of the grid (my clumsy hands), the turntable feature and it's neat look. I couldn't be more impressed. It is so neatly packaged in a sturdy attractive box that it would make a most handsome gift for anyone, especially those avid scrabblers whose old brown box folding board edition has just about seen it's last days. The grid is of a good grade of plastic that should hold up well. The turntable could be a bit smoother but all in all this edition of Scrabble is worth every cent of the $30 I paid for it. Lowest Price Partini

After reading the rave reviews, I was excited to receive this game as a Christmas gift. I am a board game junkie and I'm always looking for new party games. Well, I finally had a party at my house this past weekend and this is the first game we played. What a disappointment!!!

We all thought this game was lame and lacking in creativity and fun. And the rules...OMG! Every game has a new set so we kept having to refer back to the instructions. One of our guests had played this at another party and she was surprised we even managed to get through an entire game. At the other party, they gave up after a few rounds. It was just too frustrating having to refer back to the instructions constantly.

At my party, there were 21 people playing, ranging in age from their early 20's to late 30's. Since I live in a small condo, some of the challenges posed by the Bouncers game required too much space. Hum Punch was beyond difficult. Most of the songs we had never heard of before or were beyond hummable. In the end, we opted to change how that game worked. Playing the other games, a Topic was given so the answers were shouted out before the picture was drawn, acted out, or sculpted. For instance, sculpt something found "at a gym". Well, before the person started sculpting, answers were shouted, "weights", "bodybuilders", "treadmill", etc. Since it's meant to be fun, I'm not going to tell my game players to wait before the action is started.

I don't know. This game just didn't work for us at all. I'd definitely save your money and stick with Cranium. You're guaranteed to have more fun with that game.Get more detail about Partini.

Bought this for my daughter (1 year) for Christmas. She loves the music and watching the gears move. We saw a similar gear toy at a local store but it had a much heftier price tag so I found this option on Amazon and decided to give it a try. Save Hasbro Guess Who? Marvel Heroes Edition

I expected this game to be shoddy because of previous reviews and because games in general are so cheaply made these days. But seriously? The cards fell out of the slots constantly. We had to stop the game just about every turn. We have similiar card in slot games like Cranium Caribou and have had 0 problems. (They also use the same cheap cardboard as I would expect) but have the good sense to make the cards only slightly smaller than the holders so they don't slide out all the time. Unless you are playing with another adult (hope you aren't) then it is not worth the set up, because the kid will get frustrated before a full game is played. A great idea for a guess who game ruined by such a simple fix.Get more detail about Hasbro Guess Who? Marvel Heroes Edition.

Buying Monopoly-Simpson's Electronic Edition

This is the newest edition of The Simpsons Monopoly Game. Simply put, this game is great! Some changes from the older edition include a new board, new player pieces, and a few other cosmetic designs. The greatest and most obvious change though is the new Electronic Debit Card system. That's right: no cash involved whatsoever! This is a great feature that makes for some fun, fast and hassle-free play. Each player gets a card and makes all money transactions with the electronic gizmo included: just insert your card into either the pay or collect slot, punch in the numbers and keep the game rolling. This new feature really is the center point of this new edition. Otherwise it's mostly the Monopoly you've come to love. There's a colorful and easy-to-use rule book that gets you started quickly, and, as always, you're still at liberty to adjust certain rules to your liking without ruining the gameplay. The only real downside to this edition is that it could easily have been more Simpsons-oriented. You have the board and the tokens, but you don't really feel like you're in Springfield making a difference, or pitting your favorite characters together. If you play long enough, like an hour, it feels like typical Monopoly. I wish they would have found a way to immerse you more into The Simpsons theme, because it really just boils down to the board, the few small player tokens, the debit cards, and that's about it. If you love Monopoly and like The Simpsons, you will really enjoy this new electronic cash edition. If you LOVE The Simpsons and like Monopoly, you'll be pleased, but not thrilled.Get more detail about Monopoly-Simpson's Electronic Edition.

Buy Battleship Express

These games have reinvigorated game night for my family. I highly recommend this product for families, ages 7+ years.

We usually do a game night during the week. Our main problems were two-fold: 1. The shorter/quicker games often became boring or repetitive, or 2. The more exciting games could, depending on the game, run for longer than we had set aside, leaving my kids frustrated that we couldn't finish the game before bedtime. Hasbro created these self-contained Express games that can be played approximately 20 minutes.

These games come in a plastic container that hold everything you need to play. Pop open the lid and begin! Battleship comes with two different games. It is based on cards that have the different battleships and rolling dice. The basic premise is that you have a fleet of ships that you line up in a particular order. Each one comes with "strength" numbers, meaning how much fire power it can emit and how much attack it can sustain. The dice are labeled with different colors or an explosion symbol. At the beginning of your turn, you decide which ship you are going to attack with and which player you are going to attack. You then roll the dice three times to attempt to sink their ship. The first player to successfully sink three ships wins.

This game is exciting but has a discreet play-time (usually around 20 minutes). We often are able to play a couple of rounds before bed. It is satisfying in that we can finish several games before bedtime and have multiple "winners" so everyone is happy.

We have now purchased all but one of the "Express" games from Hasbro, and all of them are equally as good. We own:

Battleship
Monopoly
Clue
Sorry
(we don't have Scrabble)

They are also great for travel, because everything is contained in the plastic container for storage and the dice can be rolled inside the container for easy play.

I highly recommend these games for family game night, travel, or any time you just want to have a little fun.

The Noodleboro picnic basket manners game is a good game to teach kids about good manners. Kids have to remember to keep saying "please" and "thank you". Where To Buy Electronic Battleship Advanced Mission

Sure I loved my 70's battleship game, but this electronic take on it is utterly useless and horribly designed.
First off, there is a major factory flaw: You can't input the coordinates for your ships, the computer voice keeps saying "incorrect."
The internet verifies this. Everyone has this problem. Therefore, the whole purpose of having an electronic version of the game is null and void.
So now you can only play it "traditional" style. OK- That's fine. But wait, the product is wretchedly designed that it falls while you play it
and the covers for the peg storage compartments fall right off and the scatter little parts everywhere, ready for your baby to choke on
and your feet to step on. I just played this with my son and we now hate each other. Thanks a lot, Hasbro.Get more detail about Electronic Battleship Advanced Mission.
