Simon Trickster

I had the 1985 version of this game and it was fantastic, so I want to get one for my 4 year old. But is this price for real? [...] That doesn't seem right at all and I certainly won't buy it for that. Is this a mistake or something?Buy Simon Trickster!

Library Risk Game Set

วันศุกร์ที่ 24 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2552

For decades, Risk has been one of the best games around, and certainly in my top 3. The goal is simple: get your troops set up, go out and conquer the game board! To beat your opponent(s), you must roll dice. If your number (or numbers) is/are higher, you win. Will the dice be favorable? Or will the defender ward off your attacks, leaving your troops in the dust? Risk is certainly one of the most exciting games out there. And it's lots of fun.

The board is made up of the world (kids, don't use this as a geographical model) divided into about 42 different territories. Lines link some territories from one continent to another, or from one island to the mainland. Thus, different territories are more valuable than others.

The game-play is simple: as long as you have two or more troops stationed in a territory, you can attack a territory next to it. The more troops, the more complicated the game gets. You roll up to three die, depending on how many troops you have stationed in one area. Be careful (and lucky!), because if you lose a skirmish, one or more of your troops will die.

Strategy takes the upper hand here, but luck is very important when rolling the dice (great combination: luck and strategy). Where will you put your armies? Will you fortify numerous territories, or will you group them up in one area, hoping to exterminate your opponents' weaker territories that are surrounding you? Which territories are more valuable for your campaign? These questions are just some of the problems Risk-takers will face.

And now for the game contents. The Library Edition does justice to this classic. The board looks just as it might have when the game came out. The cards are nicely made, the pieces are nice (hey, they're only wooden blocks), and you get 6 dice, three white dice and three red dice. Beautiful edition fitted into one fairly small package. Definitely worth your money.Buy Library Risk Game Set!

Hasbro Library Monopoly Game

วันพฤหัสบดีที่ 23 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2552

Our daughter is now to the age where we want to introduce her to all the old classic board games we enjoyed as kids. But as I'm sure you know, after years of use and abuse, the standard cardboard-boxed board games start to disintegrate and playing pieces begin disappearing. Not to mention, storing all those large and different-sized game boxes becomes a hassle.

Therefore, I was pleasantly surprised when my daughter recently received two Hasbro Vintage board games for her birthday: "Monopoly" and "Clue."

For those of you old enough to remember the '3m Bookshelf' Games from the 1960's and 70's, Hasbro has taken the idea to a new level.
While the 3m Games (and other manufacturuers who followed in their shoes) were simply nicely-decorated cardboard boxes that could be stored on your bookshelves, the new Hasbro games are housed in sturdy wooden boxes that are designed to resemble leather-bound books. In fact, the Hasbro games look identical to my old collection of textbooks from lawschool - except for the words "monopoly" and "Clue" printed on their spine.

"Monopoly" contains all the playing pieces you're accustomed to (the money and property deeds are slightly smaller than in the classic version of the game), but the houses and hotels are made of solid wood rather than cheap plastic. The colors and finishes on the board, playing pieces, and printed stock gives the set an old-fashioned (dare I say 'vintage') feel.
"Clue" also has all the familiar playing pieces you've come to know, but in this case, everything appears to be the same size as in the classic version (as far as I can tell).

The only concern I have is regarding the construction of the playing boards. Due to the compact size of the 'faux-book' container, it was necessary for Hasbro to make the playing board fold multiple times in order to fit. This results in a single short, thin paper hinge that holds the two main portions of the board together when unfolded on the table. Care will need to be taken when handling the board to avoid tearing this hinge; it doesn't look like it will take much abuse.

But, all in all, these games are a great value for the money and they will make a very handsome addition to any formal library.

Although the dice are a bit cheap, the case is nice and sturdy. It should last longer than the cardboard box the regular version uses. I'd buy it again.Buy Hasbro Library Yahtzee Game!

Don't Spill the Beans

This toy is ok. It is alittle flimsy. Could stand to be made a little more durable. The kids can cheat on this game very easily without even trying. Buy Don't Spill the Beans!

Library Scrabble Game Set

As a minor board game fan, I never really felt compelled to actually purchase board games until Hasbro finally got the wonderful idea to put together a handful of their favorite games in "nostalgia" packaging in a wonderful wooden box! Finally there are board minds I don't mind owning, playing, and most importantly displaying.

Most of the games in the "Library" set have minor problems like board size or piece size, but all in all these games are a perfect addition to any classy front room. Scrabble, however, is without any real changes or problems at all. The board is full size, the tiles have no problems staying on the board when it's on a flat surface, and the board creases don't really mess anything up. The ONLY problem I have with this set is that the wooden box that the game comes in does not have the little magnet that keeps the lid from sliding out when taking out the game! It's hardly even a gripe at all, but when all the other ones have it and this one doesn't it makes you wonder what the hell happened over at Hasbro. Also, you might want to buy these games in person; for some reason the gold lettering on the spine of the "books" tends to be in varying conditions (some are faded, some are greenish). Go for the gold!

Regardless, Scrabble (much like the games in the whole set) is a wonderful game and this set is absolutely worth buying. Keep the cheapo paper box version for the kids, and put this up in the bookshelf for visitors over 10. You won't be disappointed.Buy Library Scrabble Game Set!

Twister Hopscotch

วันอังคารที่ 21 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2552

My 6-year-old son and I played this game. The circles are too small for either of our feet and the point of the game (set it up any way, jump in all circles except the one color you spin, and dance or sing or clap when you meet in the middle) was pointless for someone of his age.

This would be perfect for 3-4 year olds b/c their feet would fit, it would develop coordination and color recognition, it would be simple to understand, and there are no winners or losers.

For kids older than that, I think it's pointless. But my 8 year old had fun spinning the rings around on his arms so it wasn't a total loss!Buy Twister Hopscotch!

Pictionary

We played this and had tons of fun (we= an ENT resident, a law school student, one 8 year old, and some college students). Goes to show anyone can play. I say even if you're not in the mood, or you think people will find it lame, the chances are folks will get into it. One person's whole-hearted rendition of the USA looked like an elephant, and that cracked people up for the rest of the game. Tons of funny stuff came up. When rushed even the super artists begin to produce weird funny looking pictures :-) One girl was laughing so hard at this other guy's drawings that she literally had tears coming out of her eyes.

Highly recommend having around.

The rules are confusing at first especially with the "all play," but if you read the instructions and play every now and then, that's not a big issue. You'll pick it up.

Also, the game may not be "educational" per say, BUT it definitely improves young kids' vocabulary, and their knowledge of sayings and general knowledge (ex. "space needle" came up and several people didn't know that was a building structure in Seattle). They also learn team work and patience...that's huge! The 8y/o would keep getting frustrated at the time crunch and her confounding problem of bad drawings. She relaxed a little and learned to go with the happy flow as the game went on.

Some specifics:
- Easy and fun
- For any age
- laugh at people's funny drawings
- Great interactive group game that's not based on chance like most othersBuy Pictionary!

LAZERTAG Multiplayer Battle System

The lazer tag itself is great. I do not like the tv/video game aspect and may not have purchased the set if I had understood that component. The battery demand is also disappointing--I wish it was sold with rechargable batteries!Buy LAZERTAG Multiplayer Battle System!
